Spiritual Differences between Schools of Art and Design, and between Sexes

We analyzed how many differences about spirituality
exist between the students who aspire to be artists and the
students who aspire to be designers, and between male
students and female students in Tohoku University of Art
and Design. We constructed the contingency table with
the items of Question 1 and from the Questions 5 to 46
included in the opinion poll in January 2011. We used
item frequency as one variable and sex or a School (faculty)
as the other variable, and performed the chi-square test of
association next. The relevance of sex and spirituality was
significant at 0.1% in 13 items, and the relevance of the
faculty and spirituality was significant at 0.1 % in 9 items.
As a result of analyzing those factors included in Kubota
et al. (2011) research containing items obtained above,
students in the School of Art were found to affirmatively
evaluate the relevance of artistic creation and religious
nature. However, students of the School of Design were
found to more affirmatively evaluate the influence and
the contribution which art and design exert on society.
