表象的特性としての知覚的クオリアと美的クオリア
―フレーゲ的表象主義にもとづく考察 ―

─ An Inquiry Based on the Fregean Representationalism ─

クオリアをめぐる論争点のひとつにクオリアは表象的特性か否かという点が挙げられるが、本稿では、少なくとも知覚的クオリアと美的クオリアに関しては、両者を表象的特性と見なすクオリア表象主義の立場を採る。今日クオリア表象主義の主流をなすのは「ラッセル的表象主義」であると言えるが、ラッセル的表象主義は、各クオリアが表象する特性を対象に直接的に帰属しうるという点で一定の長所をもつものの、他方で同一のクオリア経験が対象に異なった特性を帰属することになりかねないという深刻な問題を蔵する。こうした問題を回避するためにD. チャーマーズがあらたに提唱するのが「フレーゲ的表象主義」であると言えるが、本稿では、このフレーゲ的表象主義にもとづき表象的特性としての知覚的クオリアと美的クオリアについて考察をおこない、知覚的クオリアの表象内容が「通常の諸条件のもとで大抵の場合当該の知覚的クオリア経験を引き起こす特性」であるのに対し、美的クオリアの表象内容は「経験主体が当該知覚的クオリアをどのように感受しているか、すなわち、経験主体と知覚的クオリアとの間に成立するある特定の関係様態」であることを明らかにする。

One of the controversial issues concerning qualia is whether qualia are representational properties or not. In this paper at the very least regarding the perceptual qualia and aesthetic ones I take a representationalist position which considers them representational properties. Nowadays the mainstream of qualia representationalism is a Russelian representationalism. While a Russelian representationalism has a merit that it enables to attribute immediately to the object the property which each quale represents, it contains a serious problem that the same experience of a quale could attribute a different property to the object. It is the Fregean represenationalism that D. Chalmers anew advocates in order to circumvent the problem of Russelian representationalism. In this paper I will examine perceptual qualia and aesthetic ones based on the Fregean representationalism, and confirm that on the one hand the representational content of a perceptual quale is the property that usually causes perceptual experience of the quale in normal conditions, and on the other hand the representational content of an aesthetic quale is the manner in which a subject senses the perceptual quale concerned, i.e., a particular relational modality obtained between a subject and the perceptual quale.
