隙間をうめるデザイン
Design that makes up for gaps

温井亨
NUKUI Toru

The reason of the chaotic characteristics of
landscapes and cities in Japan is the absence
of total planning and design. Therefore, to get
the quality of cities and rural areas and to enjoy
the beautiful landscapes, it is necessary the big
change to reform the total system. In this paper
I report my three works I had started not to
wait the reform of the total system. I began with
what I could. The title of this paper, “design that
makes up for gaps” is the concept I found out
reevaluating my works in this occasion. I think
that the chaos of Japanese landscape is derived
from the system in which each element of cities
and rural areas is made except to consider its
circumstances and totality.
In the work of the graduate school building of
Tohoku University of Art & Design I made up
for the gaps by proposing the site plan, control
of the height, the design of group form, and total
interior designs with furniture. In Kawamae
Wharf of Mogami River, the local committee made
up for the unsuitable plan by the counterproposal
I designed. The preservation of the building of
the Dai-ichi Elementary School of Yamagata
City is the new thought that made up for the
conventional thought not having evaluated
historical architecture as cultural assets.
