清野鉄臣と簡易博物館
Tesshinn Seino and a simplified museum
“Kanni Hakubutsu-kan”.

後々田寿徳
GOGOTA Hisanori

Tesshinn Seino (1865-1945) is the educator and the local historian who
resided in Atsumi village in Yamagata. In 1912 he established a simplified
museum “Kanni Hakubutsu-kan” on his property in order to collect and
exhibit the material of nature and history in the Atsumi area.
He managed the museum for 30 years by self-finance and self-study. The
entrance is free and it has no holiday all the year round.
The simplified museum is one of the oldest museums as a private museum
in the Tohoku district, and it is also impressive for us to be able to know the
history in detail due to his “Autobiography (1941)”.
Seino did not have the successor. I suppose that a simplified museum was
closed because of his death, and all material, that is, 3,000 pieces has been lost.
