Visualization of migration by university admission

Many Japanese people experiences migration at
the high school graduation period. Therefore, the
migration of this period is valuable for considering
the regional structure. Applying the Huff’s model,
we interpret the data of university admission. In
our analysis, we focus on variables of attraction
power, and discuss the meaning of these values.
Virtual maps of migration by university
admission are shown by applying the idea of the
multidimensional scaling method. The feature of
our study is that our virtual map shows the inner
distance of each prefecture. Every virtual map
have reliability because each virtual map is made
of three years data. Finally, six virtual maps were
made which are three ages’by two types that by
universities and by junior colleges.
Twelve considerations concerning migration
by university admission were obtained from
virtual maps. Also, virtual map makes us
possible to evaluate influences of transportation
developments on the migration.
