　膨大なビデオデータをどのように索引付けするか、またそこから得られる静止画等の素材をどのようにデータベース化するかは、動画像のデジタル化を支える基礎技術開発の大きな課題の一つである。この課題を解決する支援技術は、膨大な映像資料を保有するミュージアム、映像ライプラリ、放送局、生涯学習センター等の諸機関の基盤技術となるばかりでなく、個人がビデオデータを活用する上でも有用であることから、社会全体の情報化促進に寄与する意義が大きい。筆者は、この具体的解決策として、ビデオデータのショット変化点検出法1)、ビデオデータを対象とするマルチメデイアデータベース化支援技術体系の方法論と要素技術2) 3) 4) を提案してきた。本研究では、これらの支援技術体系の核をなすツール「PopCom」4) の機能を拡張することにより、ビデオ静止画自動抽出を想定したデータベースの自動組織化を試みた。

 

Indexing and databasing of a huge video data are the mostfundamental technologies for managing moving image data. Ifwe can derive specific methods, a set of them will grow into afeasible support system of managing digital materials atmuseums, image libraries, broadcasting stations, educationalcenter, etc.. It is also available to all who make better use ofvideo data.I developed an automatic method of reconstruction ofmultimedia database by enhancing functions of the toolPopCom which is a core of this support system. The enhansedPopCom indexes and reconstructs all of extracted materialsautomatically.
