大学の地域連携活動におけるグラフィックテザインの重要性
The importance of graphic design in university activities with the local
community

Graphic design holds an important function
in creating a link between universities and the
local community. What is necessary for graphic
design to play this role well? In this essay, with
two case studies using sample graphic works, we
carefully examine the answer to this question.
The two samples were designed by the author.
One is a calendar with the theme of “fountains,”
and the other is a pamphlet for the members of
the university to introduce their activities to the
local residents. At first glance, these works may
not seem to have any unique ideas in design and
expression, but in fact, they do contain some
good examples for creating links with the local
community, especially in effectively conveying
key information and sparking interest. At the end
of this essay, a new department for generating
graphic design jobs from the activities with local
residents is proposed for our university’s education
structure. From this, a new kind of educational
method which is difficult to implement under the
current university faculty construction can be
promoted. This would allow for more university-
community interaction and exchange than there
is at present. It is suggested that such activities
in the new department should play an important
part in further developing and improving the
quality of our university’s education as well as
providing economical support.
