Relationship of the Color Images Regarding Parents between the Two Sexes
-Based on a Questionnaire at Tohoku University of Art & Design (TUAD)-

This paper is based on a questionnaire (Dec. 2013 to
Feb. 2014) which consists of eighty-eight questions about
the color images of various emotions, human relationships,
spirituality, etc. Here we discuss the color images
regarding parents, asked in Questions 28 and 29. One
thousand two hundred and seventy-two students (58%
of the total number of students at Tohoku University
of Art & Design (TUAD)) answered the questionnaire.
To summarize, a slight pattern regarding that color
image selected for the mother and that for the father
was recognized. In particular, we could find out that the
color images selected for the mother and for the father
revealed as complementary colors or as complementary
afterimages of each color on a color circle, namely Y/BP,
YG/P and R/BG, and so on (mother/ father). Observing
from the cross-bubble chart of the two sexes, we found
two main groups, a hue-respecting group and a tonerespecting
group. The hue-respecting group consists of
four subgroups,a pure hue group, a dark and bright hue-respecting
group, a soft paternal hue group, and a dense
hue group. The tone-respecting group is divided into
three subgroups, a dark and brightness tone-respecting
group, an intense tone group and a soft tone group. It
could be possible to imagine each family type according
to these seven groups.
