A study on the role of an inquiry council for architectures to form the
townscape along the city planning road in Takahata town

The townscape is a current issue now. It is
needed to form a townscape when a city planning
road is selected as a subject of public enterprise.
This article aims at providing useful information
from the experience of inquiry council on
town planning road in Takahata town where
the townscape is formed along the roadsides.
This organization dealt with many examples
of designing process resulted to be changed
or unchanged comparing from the starting
presentations.
The results of changed designs are summed up
into the table with architectural factors in which
being changed are roof form, the amenity of front
yard, windows and openness of the facade.
Two special cases of a large site in which
inquiry process many changes were realized are
investigated due to the processes.
Finally those results and case studies are
analyzed and some useful suggestions are obtained.
Those are importance of a keyword expressing
understandable atmosphere of the townscape, of
meeting between the council and an architect just
after selected by the client, and of the respect of the
architect’s opinion superior to the client, possibility
of detailed design guide as a methodology instead
of using inquiry council.
