– in Kawaba Village in Gunma Prefecture

A number of ‘Michino-Eki’, service areas along
highways, have been developed mainly by public
sectors and cherished by tourists for these some
ten years.
The Kawaba Den-en Plaza,’Michino-Eki’
developed in Kawaba Village in Gunma
Prefecture as its town site, is playing a role in
promoting regional vitalization in many ways
such as producing special local products, selling
small scale agricultural products, serving
tourists as a drive-in rest area and functioning
as a communication place between tourists and
inhabitants.
It has been successfully run by a third sector
through careful and flexible management and it
went to the black 4 years after opening operation.
It, also, was nominated by popularity poll among
visitors to ‘Michino-Eki’ for the no.1 ‘Michino-
Eki’ in Kantoh Districts and partial Kohsinetsu
Districts in the year of 2004.
