How Is “Ibasyo” Attained ?
-Based on the Case Study of the Youth Support in Free Space-

滝口克典 Katsunori TAKIGUCHI

Now in japan, the youth are exposed to many sorts
of risks. To support them, we can offer “ibashyo (a
community for the persons concerned).” The former
sociology defines this “ibasho” as follows: an environment
of intimacy with others, and open time -space with
looseness. It is in this ambiguous and secure place that
the youth can recover their identities from their own
damages and have a great step toward reconstructing
themselves. However, this “ibasho” has been thought to
be ambiguous, so we can’t avoid the increasing degree of
plurality and interminglement of many categories. If the
degree grows excessively, the definition of “ibasyo” will be
lost, -a community of homogeneity and intimacy. How
do supporting members deal with these two seemingly
contradicting requirements for “ibasyo” -as both a
community and a public space? Based on the case studies
mentioned here, I state how the supports of “ibasho”
decrease its complexity of the space and succeed in
including a great variety of people.
