　本稿は政府の「デジタル田園都市国家構想」と二地域居住の推進を背景に、テレワークやAR技術がもたらす働き方と生活空間の変化を論じている。産業革命から情報革命への歴史的転換を踏まえ、ICT産業は人材立地型であり、大都市集中を相対化する可能性をもつと指摘する。コロナ禍で広がったテレワークは効率性や柔軟性を評価されつつも、偶発的対話や組織文化の継承に課題を残すため、多くの企業はハイブリッドワークを導入している。現状のテレワークは「電話型」にとどまり、没入感や感覚情報の不足が問題だが、今後は3D視覚や触覚・嗅覚伝送を伴う「没入型」へ進化すると予測される。特にARディスプレイはサザランドの「The ultimate display」構想を実現に近づけ、リアル対面と同等の臨場感を提供し得る。これにより出社依存は低下し、生活空間は拡張する。二地域居住における拠点は、在宅や都市部より広さを確保しやすく、ARテレワークに適しているとされる。最終的に、ICTとARの発展は国土の均衡ある発展、地方創生、多様なライフスタイル実現に寄与し、二地域居住が有効なモデルとなると結論づけている。

 

This paper examines how Japan’s “Digital Garden City Nation” vision and the promotion of multi-regional living are reshaping work and lifestyles through ICT and AR technologies. Drawing on the historical shift from the Industrial to the Information Revolution, it highlights that ICT industries are talent-oriented rather than location-bound, offering a chance to counterbalance urban concentration. Telework, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, provides flexibility and efficiency but also faces challenges such as weaker organizational culture and lack of spontaneous interactions, leading most firms to adopt hybrid models. Current telework is described as “telephone-type,” limited to 2D audiovisual exchanges, but future trends point toward immersive telework integrating 3D vision, haptics, and even olfactory data. AR displays, embodying Sutherland’s “ultimate display” concept, will enhance presence and reduce the need for physical commuting, enabling real and virtual interactions to coexist seamlessly. As living spaces expand, multi-regional residences can provide more suitable environments for AR-enabled telework compared with urban homes constrained by space. Ultimately, the paper argues that advancing ICT and AR technologies will foster regional revitalization, correct Tokyo-centric concentration, and enrich workers’ lifestyles, positioning multi-regional living as a practical model for a balanced, well-being-oriented society.
